Matthias Nebel, born in 1984, studied stage design at the Universität
der Künste in Berlin, where he was scholarship holder of the Friedrich
Ebert Stiftung. In 2010, he graduated with a performance and set design
for Die Schwärmer by Robert
Musil. In the following year, he worked as set design assistant at the
Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, assisting scenographers like Katja
Hass, Cary Gayler and Dusan Parizek.
Since 2011, he is a freelance set and costume designer based in Berlin.
He has developed set designs for contemporary dance and performance art (sophiensæle
Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg, HAU Hebbel am Ufer Berlin), opera
(Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theater Bremen), as well as plays at medium
to large theatre insitutions in Germany and Switzerland (Schauspielhaus
Zürich, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspiel Leipzig, Theater Bonn, Staatstheater Kassel,
Staatstheater Braunschweig, Münchner Volkstheater), working with
directors and choreographers like Christoph Winkler and Laurent
Chétouane. Recent important collaborations include directors Mirja Biel
and Sebastian Kreyer.
